Terms of Service

These terms cover this website, the FileRanger download, buying a license, and the support we offer. The software itself is covered separately by the End User License Agreement — this page and that one are meant to stay in their own lanes.

Who we are

This website and FileRanger are operated by CTRL Colab LLC, a New Mexico limited liability company. Where these terms say "we", "us", or "our", they mean CTRL Colab LLC. Where they say "you", they mean you — whether you are reading the site, downloading the app, or buying a license.

You can reach us at hello@ctrlcolab.com. For legal service or postal correspondence, please contact us by email at the address above and we will provide a physical address on request.

What these terms cover

This page is about the website and the purchase. The EULA is about the software.

These terms apply when you use ctrlcolab.com, download FileRanger, buy a license, or contact us for support. Using the site means you accept them.

They do not govern what you may do with FileRanger once it is installed. That is the End User License Agreement, which you accept when you install the software. The split is deliberate, and so is the tie-breaker:

If anything on this page conflicts with the EULA on a question about the software itself, the EULA governs. If it conflicts on a question about this website or your purchase, these terms govern.

Two other documents complete the set: the Privacy Policy, which explains what FileRanger stores and what we handle, and the Refund Policy, which is the authoritative statement of our refund terms.

Using this website

The site is here to explain FileRanger, let you download it, and let you buy it. We try to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise either. Pages can be out of date, the site can be down, and links can break.

Everything on the site is provided for information. Screenshots, feature descriptions, and performance claims describe FileRanger as we expect it to behave; they are not warranties, and they are not a substitute for trying it. If something on the site turns out to have misled you about the product, that is what the fourteen-day refund is for.

Downloads and software

FileRanger is distributed as a direct download from this site. There is no app store in between.

The installer is a Windows .msi package published by CTRL Colab. It requires Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit. ARM64 devices are not officially supported in 1.0; running FileRanger on ARM64 through Windows emulation may work but is untested.

Download it from this website. We cannot vouch for copies obtained anywhere else, and you should assume a FileRanger installer from a download aggregator, a torrent, or a third-party mirror has been tampered with.

Windows may show a SmartScreen warning when you run a newly published installer, because SmartScreen builds reputation over time and a new signature has none yet. FileRanger 1.0's MSI installer is not yet code-signed, so SmartScreen will show the "Windows protected your PC" prompt on first run. Click "More info" then "Run anyway" to proceed. Signing is planned for a later release; when it ships, this page will name the exact verified publisher shown in the prompt so you can check it against the download.

Because we distribute directly, updates come from us rather than from a store. What your purchase covers in the way of updates is set out in EULA section 4.

Purchases, pricing, and taxes

FileRanger is $9.99 USD, one time. Not a subscription.

There is nothing to renew, nothing to cancel, and no recurring charge.

Paddle.com Market Limited is our merchant of record and the seller on your order. Paddle runs the checkout, takes payment, issues your receipt and invoice, and calculates and remits VAT or sales tax based on your billing country. Card details go to Paddle and never reach us. Paddle's own terms and privacy policy apply to the checkout page itself.

The price is displayed in USD; Paddle may present a converted amount in your local currency at checkout, and your bank may apply its own conversion or fees. Whether the displayed price is inclusive of applicable VAT or sales tax depends on the merchant's configuration for your billing country; the tax added, if any, is itemised at checkout before you confirm.

We reserve the right to change the price of FileRanger. A change never affects a purchase already made — you are charged the price shown at checkout, and there is no mechanism by which we could charge you again.

There is no free trial and no free tier. That is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight: we would rather sell you the whole application at a fair price and let you decide with the real thing in front of you than ship you a hobbled version and ask you to imagine the rest. The refund policy is what makes that safe.

Refunds

Fourteen days, any reason, no justification required.

The full terms are on the Refund Policy page, and that page is authoritative. We deliberately do not restate them here, because two copies of the same policy eventually stop matching.

Support

Email us and a person will answer. That is the whole of it.

Support is provided by email at hello@ctrlcolab.com, alongside the help documentation. It is best-effort: there is no service level agreement, no guaranteed response time, and no phone line. We aim to reply within a couple of business days and usually do.

What support covers is getting FileRanger installed, licensed, and working. What it does not cover is general Windows administration, recovering lost files, or diagnosing hardware. We are not a data-recovery service, and FileRanger is not a backup tool — see EULA section 6.

If you send us a diagnostics bundle or a screenshot, please look at it first. It may contain file names you would rather not share. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to what you send us.

Acceptable use

When using this website, please do not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its hosting, or any account or system connected to it.
  • Interfere with the site's operation — denial-of-service attempts, automated scraping at a volume that degrades service, or attempts to inject or execute code.
  • Redistribute the FileRanger installer or a license file as your own, or mirror it in a way that implies it came from us.
  • Use the site to send us unlawful, threatening, or malicious content.
  • Misrepresent your identity in order to obtain a license, a refund, or support you are not entitled to.

We may restrict access to the site or decline to sell to someone who does any of the above. We would rather not, and it has not come up.

Intellectual property and trademarks

The content of this website — its text, artwork, illustration, screenshots, layout, and code — belongs to CTRL Colab LLC or its licensors and is protected by copyright. You may read it, link to it, quote it in a review or an article, and share the link. You may not republish it wholesale or present it as your own.

"FileRanger", "CTRL Colab", and the associated logos are our trademarks. These terms do not license them to you, though you are of course free to refer to the product by name. Windows and Microsoft are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation, and FileRanger is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft.

Rights in the software itself are covered by EULA section 8.

Third-party links and services

This site links to services we do not run. The most important is Paddle, which handles the checkout: once you are on a Paddle page, Paddle's terms and privacy policy apply to it, and we have no control over how it behaves.

Where we link to anything else — documentation, a component's license, an article — the link is provided for convenience. We are not responsible for the content of sites we do not operate, and a link is not an endorsement.

Disclaimers

This section is about the website. The equivalent for the software is EULA section 12, and the two are meant to be read together rather than to overlap.

THIS WEBSITE AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CTRL COLAB LLC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES RELATING TO THE SITE, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE AVAILABLE, UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law allows.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CTRL COLAB LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR BUSINESS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THIS WEBSITE.

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR TWENTY-FIVE US DOLLARS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Liability relating to the software is capped separately under EULA section 13; the two caps are not cumulative.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date and version at the top of this page, and the updated version applies from the moment it is posted. If a change is significant we will say so here rather than editing quietly.

A change to these terms never alters the terms of a purchase you have already made, and it never alters the EULA covering a copy of FileRanger you already own.

Governing law

CTRL Colab LLC is a New Mexico limited liability company — that is where the company was formed, which is a separate question from which law governs these terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of that jurisdiction will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes — subject to the paragraph below.

This does not take away rights you have where you live. If you are a consumer, you keep the mandatory protections of the law of your own country or state, including the right to bring proceedings in your local courts where that law entitles you to. See also Refund Policy section 6, which says the same thing about your statutory rights.
